8th SPE Oratory Competition (ONLINE)

Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of College of Engineerign, NUST has successfully organized the  8th SPE Oratory competition (online), a college-wide event open to all students of the College of Engineering on 18th May 2020.  

The competition was jointly organized by the professional student chapters of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). The themes of the event are COVID 2019 – prevention and solution, Climate Change, Energy Conservation and waste management.

The primary objective of the event is to provide an opportunity for students in practising and enhancing their oratory skills. As communication is a crucial tool for personality development in today’s competitive world, students are challenged to further develop their skills to communicate and promote their ideas in this platform. It has been observed that students have shown wide interest by registering in the competition with more vigour and passion. 

Professor C V Sudhir, Head of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department welcomed the gatherings and inaugurated the competition. In his inaugural address, he emphasized on the importance of soft skills particularly communication skill wherein the students need to inculcate during the college days. Professor Ahmed Al Balushi, the Dean, conveyed his best wishes for the competition. 

The following students have been adjudged as winners.

  1. Ms Zubaida Ahmed Abdullah Al Abdali (150051) – First Prize
  2. Ms Umaima Hilal Ambusaidi (160089) – Second Prize
  3. Ms Rajaa Mohammed Al Touqi (150059) – Third Prize
